Artisan flower grower and florist – natural flowers, grown sustainably in Somerset
Sustainable Growing and Learning
Our intention is always to work as sustainably as possible - both in growing methods and floristry practice. To this end we grow using organic methods and don't use pesticides or artificial fertilizers or floral foam. We look after the soil and use a 'no-dig' approach. We grow and manage the land with bio-diversity in mind.
It's a constant learning process......
Growing into flowers...
I discovered a love of gardening when my family and I moved to a house in London with a garden - I suffered a bereavement and found solace in making a garden out of the sad patch of scruffy lawn we inherited from the previous owners ..I planted shrubs and interplanted with perennials and annuals that I grew from seed - I soon understood the need to have my hands in the soil, and the benefits of being outside and creating beauty from a tiny seed....
A move to the countryside allowed me to continue my exploration of growing vegetables and a few flowers in my garden and on a small allotment and eventually on our current 3 acre riverside plot near Wiveliscombe, on the Somerset-Devon border.
Blue Shed Flowers has evolved over a period of 15 years to a small but full time business - flowering weddings, delivering gift bouquets and creating out-of-the-ordinary Farewell Flowers, as well as teaching creative approaches to flower arranging, and small scale growing practices...
My inspiration is taken from the wild, rural Somerset landscape - I take my cue from the seasons, the surrounding hedgerows and meadows and I use my fine art training to bring an awareness of form and colour to inspired bouquets, arrangements and installations.
"We don’t have enough words to express how grateful we are for the incredible creation at the marquee on our wedding day! It looked stunning and people are still talking about it. Thank you for helping the day be better, more special and more perfect that we could ever have imagined."
